Introducing our Write Your Dreams Master Class series where you can spend a morning immersed in the craft of writing with a writer who was once just like you – starting out!

Crissy Van Meter, author of the debut novel, Creatures, will join us for a three-hour masterclass on the morning of March 28. She will help students explore how they find their voice as a writer.

Instructor Bio: Crissy teaches creative writing at The Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College. She is the founder of the literary project Five Quarterly, and the managing editor for Nouvella Books. She serves on the board of directors for the literary non-profit Novelly.

Her writing has appeared in ViceBustleGuernica, and Catapult. She holds an MFA in creative writing from the New School. She lives in Los Angeles.

Room Project is a space for women and non-binary writers and artists to work individually and collaboratively.

What To Expect:
30 minutes
: Introductions and conversation about Crissy’s career and writing process
30 minutes: Presentation on finding your voice and introduction of class assignment
15-minute break
30 minutes: Writing exercise
60 minutes: Workshop and students sharing their writing (in class or a piece brought in) for feedback
15 minutes: Final questions and wrap up

Is There Parking?
Yes, there is metered parking along Woodward Avenue. If you download the Park Detroit app, you can control the meter from your phone.

When Should I Arrive? Please arrive promptly at 9 a.m. We don’t have much time with Crissy!

What Should I Wear? Be comfortable!

Should I bring my own writing? Crissy will have an exercise for you, but if there is a piece you want to ask about, bring it and you may be able to read it during the workshop phase.

Eligibility: Everyone is welcome, including men. But this is a space for women and non-binary writers and artists. So please be respectful.
